Event list: Card Games

Sorcery Sweden är en nationell ideell förening för communityt runt kortspelet Sorcery Contested Realm. Vi arrangerar learn to play, turneringar, casual meet ups, och ibland även artist signings.

There are loads of games you get pressured into buying at conventions that you could just as well play with a regular deck of cards. In this drop-in activity, you’ll get to learn some of them. Expect some well-known favourites, with a slightly different look.

In addition to the games you may already know, we’ll teach freshly designed card games that only use a standard deck, as well as a few we think most people have missed. You’ll find everything from team games to free-for-alls, co-ops, and solitaires. Come alone or bring a bunch of friends.
If you're extra nice and well-behaved, you might even get to play games that use some more unusual decks.

Hopefully, you’ll leave with one or two new favorites you can play anytime there’s a deck of cards nearby. And there usually is.

This event is part of Materialist Game Labs’ line-up at GothCon. We want to look at gaming culture from a fresh perspective and find ways to make it more fair, welcoming, and accessible—all in the hope that together we can build a living gaming culture rather than just a commercial hobby.

Thom Király is a game designer and game educator based in Malmö. He will act as your guide on this journey through a cheapskate's attempts to use their 52 friends to avoid stuffing their shelves with games that would work just as well with standard cards.

En spelbar och butik som kommer att arrangera tre brädspelsturneringar samt nördquiz.
Det kommer att finnas många spel till utlåning och försäljning.

Sorcery: Contested Realm Tournament! Bring your favorite deck and take part in Sorcery Sweden’s first Sorcery tournament at GothCon. Whether you’re an experienced player or you’ve just built your first deck, you’re welcome to join.

Format: Constructed (60/30/10)
Ban list: No cards are banned
Legal sets: Alpha, Beta, Arthurian Legends, Dragonlord, Gothic
Structure: 4 rounds Swiss + top cut
Maximum players: 24
Prizes: Avatar alter by Jonas Wideen, signed prints by Mattias Frisk, and more.
Entry fee: 100 SEK / €10

Check-in no later than 30 minutes before the start.

Registration is done via Sorcery Play Network.

Test your mettle in the "City of Ascension".

Drop-in and play a short fantasy card game where you will try to ascend from the city streets, past the monoliths and god chains to finally reach the silver city, beyond the clouds – or fall beyond the deepest of the deep, into the dark netherworld.

This game can be played by 1-5 players.

This is a card game in development by Two Crows Games, based on the "Scoundrels" ruleset (a deck of cards dungeon crawler), expanded with more narrative, and cooperative gameplay - played in a quirky fantasy setting.

Here you can learn to play Magic: The Gathering in a relaxed environment. You can sit down and play Commander, listen to lectures about different ways to play Magic, and take part in beginner-friendly tournaments!

Easter — a sacred holiday for those of us who love traditions! Of course, there will be Magic all weekend — that goes without saying.

We’ll be crowning Swedish Champions in three different formats: Standard(!), Vintage, and Duel Commander! Three players will qualify for the Regional Championships through our RCQs, and TWO(!) lucky players will also qualify for the European Legacy Masters, where they will represent Sweden on the Swedish national team! We’ll also have the popular team events Team Sealed and Team Trios (with a twist: Modern/Legacy/Duel Commander). And of course, the Easter Championship in Premodern! There’s something for everyone.

This year, just like last year, the Magic events will take place at Landala Sporthall, where we will set up more than 200 seats! The venue is only a couple hundred meters from Hvitfeldtska.

You do not need to purchase a GothCon entrance pass to participate in any of our tournaments. However, if you do, you’ll be supporting GothCon a little extra and will also receive a discount on all the tournaments you play.

Mindstage will be giving out prizes worth tens of thousands of kronor across our various tournaments! You’ll be competing for “GothCoins”, a type of ticket that you can spend on anything you like in the Mindstage shop on site. There you’ll find everything from boosters to exclusive Magic cards. You can either pick up some smaller goodies, or save up for something bigger over the entire Easter weekend — maybe an uncut foil sheet or an oversized card?

Just like before, you can join and play our Magic events without purchasing a GothCon entrance pass. But if you have paid for GothCon entry, you will receive a discount on the events you play. This means that if you only want to play one or two tournaments, you can easily do so without it becoming very expensive.
